I hate dentists, I have since I had a sadist give me 6 fillings at one sitting as a teenager and didn't listen when I told him "Ummm Sir, I am not numb". Anyways, thanks to that one experience I stayed away from dentists for about 15 years. Until recently when a filling fell out. Even then, I wasn't in a rush to go until the tooth broke.
*sighs* Well, the good news is, the new dentist is pretty good at her work, very calming, very gentle.
The bad, I needed a root canal, a crown lengthening, two crowns ( tooth next to the broken one also needed a crown) and....wait for it, all 4 wisdom teeth removed.
Yesterday was the root canal, and while I will give her credit for not hurting me ( much) during the procedure, I am now suffering with my mouth. I am told it will lessen soon. However to add insult to injury I find out that the dental insurance we pay for every month will not be paying for the bulk of this for whatever reason these companies decide is "proper" treatment.
Now, I don't want to bitch, but I read ...a lot. We have many families ( like mine) in America that never see the dentist. Number one reason, either no insurance or dental insurance doesn't pay enough and they can't afford it. Now we are lectured by the media, by doctors, by medical boards how important it is to see the dentist, but lets be honest, shall we? How many of us can afford bills into the thousands for a dental procedure?
Between this BS with the dental insurance, and the medical insurance changing doctors on me every year, I am so damn disgusted with insurance in general. What is the point of paying for services when they have the right to tell you "Even though the medical professional says this needs to be done, we don't want to shell out the money so...tough."? And then we wonder why America has the health issues it has. Well, blame big business insurance companies who put profit ahead of patient's well being.

I was looking over the insurance and they cover eyecare fully but dental is limited. Because basically they don't want to have pay; wondering why it's so expensive to get some of this dental work done.
Anyways good luck with the pulling of the wisdom teeth and such.

I've had braces which fixed an overbite, a few cavities, and my helpful orthodontist told me I needed my wisdom teeth out - 2 that have fallen in, and one, at the time, which was impacted. I refused to have them out. The reason he gave me for needing them out? "They'll screw up your bite."
Screw that.
I know I'll have to go back eventually, but I'm waiting another 5-10 years or so. Unless something falls out, I won't worry about it. I hope.
