8:36 am - Ramblings
|
Life is sometimes very funny. I recently came back into contact with my best friend from high school. We grew apart when I married my ex and she married her ex. Don't get me wrong, we tried to keep in touch, but the respective exes made being close hard. Still, we had our daughters a month apart and we made an effort to try to at least keep in touch. However after Katrina turned everyone's life upside down I realized it had been years since we spoke.
Long story short, I managed to make contact and we had a nice long talk. In the process she teased me about moving out of Louisiana and away from my parents when I couldn't stand being away from home when I started college. And it really got me thinking. For a long long time I was concerned with being perfect. The perfect daughter, the perfect wife, the perfect mother, the perfect worker, the perfect boss. But I am not perfect and now I dont want to be.
It took being married to Wyv and moving away to realize I dont have to be perfect. My husband is the most amazing person who loves me even with my numerous faults. Hell, he even makes my mistakes or faults into jokes to force me to laugh about them. Do you have any idea how hard it is to argue with someone or be mad at someone when the most outlandish things come from his mouth to make you laugh? Or he will give me his little boy look and say "You can't be mad at this face." And he is right, I cant!
For the first time in a long long time, I can honestly say I am happy and content with my life. No, it isn't perfect. We have our little problems to deal with on a day to day basis, but we deal with them and always go to bed happy. We have plans for the future and I can actually see these plans coming true. Some of them will take some time, but I dont even resent having to wait because I am happy in the now.
Even my relationship with my daughter has improved. She comes to me as both a mother and a friend. She talks to me about all of what goes on in her life, asks my advice, and even gives her friends the advice she gets from me. In some strange miracle, I ended up a "cool" mom. The Mom that her friends want to come around and hang around with. It is a good feeling. Life is good.

9:11 am - Dentists, Dental Insurance and my bad luck
|
I hate dentists, I have since I had a sadist give me 6 fillings at one sitting as a teenager and didn't listen when I told him "Ummm Sir, I am not numb". Anyways, thanks to that one experience I stayed away from dentists for about 15 years. Until recently when a filling fell out. Even then, I wasn't in a rush to go until the tooth broke.
*sighs* Well, the good news is, the new dentist is pretty good at her work, very calming, very gentle. The bad, I needed a root canal, a crown lengthening, two crowns ( tooth next to the broken one also needed a crown) and....wait for it, all 4 wisdom teeth removed.
Yesterday was the root canal, and while I will give her credit for not hurting me ( much) during the procedure, I am now suffering with my mouth. I am told it will lessen soon. However to add insult to injury I find out that the dental insurance we pay for every month will not be paying for the bulk of this for whatever reason these companies decide is "proper" treatment.
Now, I don't want to bitch, but I read ...a lot. We have many families ( like mine) in America that never see the dentist. Number one reason, either no insurance or dental insurance doesn't pay enough and they can't afford it. Now we are lectured by the media, by doctors, by medical boards how important it is to see the dentist, but lets be honest, shall we? How many of us can afford bills into the thousands for a dental procedure?
Between this BS with the dental insurance, and the medical insurance changing doctors on me every year, I am so damn disgusted with insurance in general. What is the point of paying for services when they have the right to tell you "Even though the medical professional says this needs to be done, we don't want to shell out the money so...tough."? And then we wonder why America has the health issues it has. Well, blame big business insurance companies who put profit ahead of patient's well being.

| You scored as History/Anthropology/LiberalArts, You should strongly consider majoring (or minoring) in History, Anthropology, or related majors (e.g., African and African-American Studies, Chinese, Classics, Cultural Studies, Economics, English, French, Geography, German, Greek, Hebrew, International Studies, Philosophy, Sociology, Women's Studies, or other Liberal Arts majors).
It is possible that the best major for you is your 2nd, 3rd, or even 5th listed category, so be sure to consider ALL majors in your OTHER high scoring categories (below). You may score high in a category you didnt think you would--it is possible that a great major for you is something you once dismissed as not for you. The right major for you will be something 1) you love and enjoy and 2) are really great at it.
Consider adding a minor or double majoring to make yourself standout and to combine your interests. Please post your results in your myspace/blog/journal.

First snowfall of the season. I find it quite ironic that a Southern girl like me would enjoy winter so much but I do. Something about watching the snow fall and seeing the ground look so clean and white I guess. New Orleans always had its charms, but the seasons here puts it all to shame.

11:14 am - What has changed?
|
One year later, and what have we learned?
Blame is still being passed, fingers still pointed, and the Gulf Coast still suffers.
I get to listen to some ridicule my people, because all they see is what the media showed them...of the poor and the ignorant, fighting, looting, shooting...of the fraud committed by few of the victims, but yet we get tarred ( Because you know all the victims are sucking off the government and not doing anything to help themselves). People complaining that their "taxes" are being used to rebuild my home, as if the Port of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast are not important to the whole nation's economy.
I hear the victims being blamed for choosing to live there. I hear the insurance companies making excuses, even though many in my area were told they did not need flood insurance. I hear the government, federal and local, promise much, and delivering little.
And I see my people, friends, neighbors scattered, families still separated. My hometown has gaping wounds that may never heal.
And yet all I can say is...I was one of the lucky ones. My parents now have a safe place to live, Wyv and I are doing well. We are happy, well fed and living large. We asked for little, got by with what we had, and rebuilt. So someone please explain to me why at this moment all I feel is an overwhelming rage and a sense of loss?

8:20 pm - I think I got the same result last time
|
 | You scored as Angel. Angel: Angels are the guardians of all things, from the smallest ant to the tallest tree. They give inspiration, love, hope, and positive emotion. They live among humans without being seen. They are the good in all things, and if you feel alone, don't fear. They are always watching. Often times they merely stand by, whispering into the ears of those who feel lost. They would love nothing more then to reveal themselves, but in today's society, this would bring havoc and many unneeded questions. Give thanks to all things beautiful, for you are an Angel.

 | You scored as III - The Empress. The Empress is a maternal symbol. She is the mother figure who loves, nurtures and protects. She will protect you, she will always be there when you are in trouble. When you fall over and graze your knee, the Empress will kiss it better. Yet she is not a weak figure. Her compassion is strength. If her children are threatened she will stop at nothing to protect them. If well aspected in a Tarot spread, the Empress can symbolise security, protection and unconditional love. If badly aspected it can represent over-protectiveness, fear of risk taking and refusal to face the real world.

6:15 pm - Booster Shots suck
|
So I go to the doc for a routine check up, you know that yearly think they urge all us females to do. So he checks me out all is looking well, he gave me a few suggestions on how I can get healthier...all in all, not so bad. Then comes the dreaded question "How long has it been since you had a tetnus shot?" Outcome, I get this big needle injected into my arm. This was Friday afternoon mind you. The nurse hands me a paper detailing all what may happen, what to look out for. I am told there will be some muscle soreness, a little redness, maybe some fever...nothing major right?
WRONG! Saturday evening, I am doing my little Dasaria thing and I notice I am getting some severe pain at the injection site. Look down at the arm and I have a welt about the size of a quarter. Hmmmm well the papers said one out of 10 people experience some minor swelling. I go to bed and spend a pretty rough night as this thing is throbbing. Sunday morning, swelling and redness spreads to about the size of a half doller coin. Oh not good, all day long it felt like someone was punching me in the arm. Started running low grade fever, well hey they told me to expect some of this.
This morning, I now have a welt the size of a large egg. Oh this cant be good, call the doctor who wants to see me. Yep we have an allergic reaction to the shot...or an infection. So he puts me on antibiotics, cold compresses on the arm, suggested an over the counter pain medicine.
Mind you, Friday when I went in I was feeling pretty much ok. So thanks to the medical community and drug manufactures who think its a good idea to inject people with stuff that causes a reaction like mine in 1 out of 100, I have spent two days in pain. Ummmm folks, are drugs like this supposed to keep you from getting sick. If it causes averse reactions in this many people...ummm shouldnt someone say "Hmmmm perhaps we need to head back to the drawing board and figure out how to make this shite that wont cause allergic reactions in 1 out of 100 people, since we will be using it on MILLIONS"?
Blahhhh I hate doctors.
